When the Aqua Globes arrived, I was a little surprised by how large they were. The dimensions are about 3 inches around at the globe and about a foot long so when I stuck them in my plant it was sticking out about 8 inches. This was not a problem with three of my plants but the fourth one that I wanted to use it on is low and spread out (it’s a Heartleaf Philodendron) so it really stuck out. The blue and white Aqua Globe looks best in it and they all work fine. I just wanted to point out that they were bigger than I expected.

I bought the Aqua Globes for my plants in my office. Often a three day weekend or vacation causes my plants not to get the attention they are used to. I tried an electric waterer but it was too noisy and messy. When I got my Aqua Globes, I put them in two of my three plants just to see if there was a difference.
Filling the Aqua Globes takes a steady hand because the opening is small so I found that holding it just at the edge of the water stream worked to allow air to escape as water went in. I then used a pen to make a hole in the soil where I was sticking the Aqua Globe and stuck it in. Clean and easy. The hardest and messiest part was filling it with water which wasn’t so bad once I got a knack for it.
How is the Aqua Globe supposed to work ?
The wicking action of the soil draws the water into it while the Aqua Globe is drawing in the air being squeezed out of the soil as it swells with water. It stops before overwatering the plant because the dimensions of the Aqua Globe are such that the pressure of the water trying to escape balances with the ‘soil water’ pressure at a point that does not over saturate the soil. For example if the Aqua Globe were designed with a larger or smaller neck and opening it would allow too much water into the soil or too little respectively.
I find that I need to fill them about three times every month and after the first two weeks it was obvious that it worked great and I put one in my third plant and am looking to buy another (since I got four Aqua Globes).
